Baby, the stuffin’s gettin’ HEAVY, and Brandon B. has a boner for a drag queen!  Well, drag queens in general.  I love drag, and I love androgyny, and nothing speaks to me more than a man who can put on a dress and make me want it all.  That’s why I reached out to RuPaul’s Drag Race contestants and begged them to let me bask in their glory for a moment for Crushin’ On, and the first doll I contacted was of course my favorite beauty from season 1 — Jade.  Jade aka David Sotomayor is stunning both in and out of drag.  They have a smile that could melt a stick of butter in the artic, and a beautifully sweet personality to match.  David was kind enough to ignore my obsessive nature and answer a few questions for me, and is the latest victim guest in my Crushin’ On segment!

J:  It really has… its been an amazing ride. Been very lucky to meet a lot of great people and work many places.

J: Amazing, I’m glad that I was part of change.  It’s the first reality show that has been able to open so many peoples eyes about our form of art.  I’m glad that our struggles and those who struggled and fought for our rights are paying off.

J:  All the girls seemed really cool… the ones I have met in person are Jujubee, Tyra, and Jessica Wild and they’re all sweet hearts.

J: Yes Jessica and I had an amazing event in Puerto Rico.  It was a huge turn out.  She is the sweetest and fiercest thing, has a huge heart.  And of course I stay in contact with all of my sisters from season 1.

J:  lol Well when I’m not touring as Jade, I train with two professional dance teams. Los Soneros del Swing — a Latin Company, and Gifted Souls. So I make sure I give fair time to both Jade and David.

J: Nothing that I couldn’t handle… well besides you baby haha

J: That was the only thing I didn’t care for, being portrayed as being shy. I just chose not to talk negative about the other girls…. that’s not how I wanted us to be portrayed, and not feed the negative stereotypes out there.

J: A little of both.  I’ve learned to be considerate but will not let anyone cross the line.

J: No I don’t have any, I think when you get a tattoo it should feel right. It’s gonna be with you for a long time.

J: I have yet to perform in New York, I do travel mostly out of Chicago.  I would love to visit the big apple soon….

J: It used to be failure, but Ive learned when you want something, go get it. So no I stand fearless!

J:  I originally always looked up to J.Lo but as years passed I eventually evolved my own style.

J: lol No I am a full-time entertainer.

J:  lol Again I would have to say J.lo and Angelina Jolie. Their sensuality draws me like a moth to a flame.

J:  Someone who can make me laugh. laughing brings so much joy in my life.. seriously lol…. it’s the best feeling just simply being happy. (Editors Note: I’ve made her laugh several times at this point!)

J: On May 13th the cast of 50 Faggots, a documentary that I am featured in, will be at Hydrate in Chicago celebrating this amazing series and kick off the weekend of festivities. Performances by Acid Betty, Epiphony from NYC Screaming Queens, choreographer Darrell Jones, Marc Felion and Fausto Fernos from “Feast of Fun” and myself, with DJ Phil DaBeatz.  The following day May 14th, the premiere of the first episode will be presented at the Center on Halsted.

Holy crap, where the hell have I been?  Lots has been going on this month, most of which includes me being the laziest asshole in Manhattan.  It’s been cold so I moved my bookcase in front of my door and have been growing a length of beard ala Crazy Mr. Burns above.

Leave it to the golden go-go boy and former Inqueery crush Geronimo to lure me out of hiding with the announcement of his new bobble-hip figurine crafted in his likeness.  Picture it: me, hair wild, hissing at the sunlight, arm scrambling to grab the figurine and retreat before I start getting Snuggie-shaped tan lines…

Man, I have so many mixed emotions about this.  This must be how it feels to be a 14 year old and buying Zack Efron merchandise from High School Musical.  I can only imagine what younger brats do with their sex idol merch.  Lord knows I am going to break this poor figurine within the first hour of it arriving.  And yes I did order one, and you can too by visiting the merchandise section of Geronimo’s website at justgstyle.com (enjoy the hipper-than-me music and the LOL biography where he talks about his dead black chihuahua Blackie.  Zeitgeists of creativity flow through this man.)

It has been as cold as a witches tit lately here in New York lately and it has cooled down my crush-drive.  When the weather is more agreeable I find myself falling in love left and right, but when it feels like air-ice outside I go into slut-hibernation and try to stay indoors as much as possible.  It’s been a while since someone has made my panties go ping, but lately they have been a pingin’ hard for porn star Bryan Slater!  This chunk of arm candy has an insane body and the looks to match.  And a personality or something.

Being the full-blown creep that I am, I asked him if he wouldn’t mind me sexually harassing interviewing him here, and he was very sweet and totally agreed.  He even sent me some never before published pics from a photo shoot he did on Fire Island this year!  How awesome is that!  After browsing these photos, I am 100% convinced that my crush is a most delicious subject.  Too delicious to be true?  We’ll see.  Keep reading to find out what this babe is all about!

That’s why I am always so happy to find people that make me smile just by watching them.  Whenever I see Daniel Scott Erickson I immediately begin to smile.  This cutie is always rocking a friendly, upbeat attitude that totally moistens my manties.  I chat with him briefly everytime I see him and he always walks away smiling back at me, as if he is hoping that I am smiling too.  After getting to know him I found that that is actually a very accurate way to describe him — he just wants everyone to be happy and have fun.

This attitude and energy is also displayed in full force through his awesomely fun band MKNG FRNDZ.  I saw a show of theirs once…and when I say “saw” I mean more like, I attended a show of theirs and was dancing and goofing off the whole time.  It was great fun and it was exactly how they like it!  In a recent interview with ChiefMag.com he talks about how he loves the people that come to their shows and just dance.  “There’s nothing to analyze here, just go crazy with us.”

After flashing some serious thigh and promising him lots of flattering comments about his package, Daniel finally agreed to let me talk to him and publicly admit that I am crushin’ on him.

Ok first of all I have to ask because I am curious….a few months back I gave you a free sample of something. Did you ever use it?

Haha! Actually I put it behind the bar in the lil cubby where we keep our shit during our shift and somebody STOLE it! I have it pretty narrowed down to a few people it might have been but i guess it’s finders keepers when it comes to warming lube at a gay bar. I shoulda pocketed it and tacked the empty packet to my wall. It’s so rare when I ever WIN something.

That concludes my sexual harassment of you for the time being. What is your personal favorite song to perform?

It changes from time to time but right now its a song called Love Cruisin’. Its basically about finding your rhythm with somebody on a dancefloor and hoping to recreate that in the bedroom later that night..I think being able to have a groove with somebody when you are dancing together is much like being able to kiss well together too. It’s not on our page but we have performed it live a few times and it gets better every time we do it. Its one of the 1st songs we wrote together as a band and it just keeps evolving ..I keep adding these lil music parts..It actually has a guitar riff that has never been used but once live. I am still learning to sing and harmonize while working a synthesizer and guitar at the same time.

I heard you are planning a tour? Any NY shows on that agenda?

We leave in a few weeks on our US tour. Our 1st show is in Chicago w/ Leslie & The Lys on July 27th. It’s a benefit for About Face Theater (http://aboutfacetheatre.com/) They are a great organization that is totally all about creating dialogue around gender and sexual politics. They have a great programs for Queer & Questioning Youth. As far as New York Shows go the last one we played in February will be our last until we are back from tour. We will be playing A Summer Kamp Variety Series Sept 9th at Metropolitan in Wburg that is co-hosted by the Comedian Garry Hannon.

MJ is gone! Do you plan on covering any of his songs? My friends and I are trying to convince someone to do a hot cover of Dirty Diana…

NO. We are both totally influenced by his body of work.. If we did anything we might pull some visual elements from the Jackson 5′s last 3 records. Get this…. they are called Destiny, Triumph & Victory. In that order. You have got to check out the video for “Can You Feel It” on Youtube. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xW1fXL3s7bk) This video is INCREDIBLE!

I read your interview from ChiefMag.com where you discussed Madonna at length. Are there any M songs that you feel have influenced your music?

OMG YES. Her first album for sure. I think it is flawless. Like a Prayer is a great record. “Express Yourself“, “Keep It Together“, “Like a Prayer“… basically anything she performed during Blonde Ambition. “VOGUE!” But MOST of all the album Erotica. To this day if I see that record lying around anywhere I still get that super excited devious feeling that takes me back to all the controversy surrounding the album & Sex book when I was a kid years ago. Like in some way still I am listening or seeing something that is forbidden & dangerous. haha! Of course this is a bit before Bikini Kill, Huggy Bear & Bratmobile for me. These 3 groups changed my life forever in ways that only people who know what I mean by simply just naming these bands can understand. We all have our stories so I’ll spare mine for now.

Many moons ago you sent out a letter to the whole of Brooklyn announcing that you were going to be filming a music video. How did that go? Can it be viewed online anywhere?

That is an interesting question… we are gearing up to make a few videos. A lot of things have been going on right now with the band. After our last show back in Feb. My bandmate Tami was hit by a car while biking home from work that left her with a pretty terrible ankle injury that had kept her off her feet till literally around 2 weeks ago. With that everything kind of had to fade into the background (videos, recording, tours etc) where we are just now calling it all back on the wind.. we are touring in August now instead of June & July, making videos for Situation & Sexual Forestz in September & October respectively… we will need people for BOTH of these videos and are really excited about them. Anything we have now are still our old demos on the Myspace page or Youtube videos that are scattered here and there.

If anyone wanted to buy your music, where could they do that?

We are actually preparing to sign a record deal for our debut album with our friends at Last Bummer Records. These girls are fucking RAD and know what they are doing and we are just so pumped to be involved with them. One of the girls works for Vice and penned the article on us that just appeared in Chief # 17 the other is actually the editor of Chief Mag itself. Radical, Creative, Spontaneous & Driven Women. They are going to TAKE OVER.

Is there anyone that you are a fan of that you wish more people knew about and would get into?

2 people immediately come to mind.

I have a love affair with Illustrators and Visual Artists because it is defs an area where I lack any real patience or discipline. I am really humbled and feel like a total bad ass to be living on the same planet as both of these guys. Steven Levan. He is a good friend & Co-Worker of mine @ The Metropolitan. He is an AMAAAAAZZZING Visual Artist whose work really gives it to me. I don’t know why somebody hasn’t given him a million dollars yet. He has these portraits of people that he does that are just so insanely good. It’s an ongoing series titled “You and What Army?” they look like painted photographs. The mood, the lighting, the striking poses..there is this aged, rough timelessness to these faces that i can’t take my eyes away from. I want to know them. They are fantastic. We are lucky enough for him to have agreed to lend his work to our 1st album cover. We are FREAAAAKING OUT!

Arturo Cordova. He moved here about a year back from San Juan & all of his work is incredible and gets me really excited. He does really simple to the most intricate illustrations, animations, wheat pastings, zines, record covers & silk screens. He draws tattoos & makes these fantastic shirts with his friend Ricardo Vilaró. Pretty much any illustration he ever shows me I either want to be living in or getting tattooed somewhere on my body. I want Arturo tattooed on my body pretty much. Arturo & Ricardo are actually doing these awesome shirts for our tour that we came up with using a few ideas he had in one of his books that I am flipping out on. I can’t wait for you to see them!

So I know your night job, but whenever I see your big strong arms mopping up my vom I wonder….Does he have a day job like everyone else?

Haha!! You know my Mom (who is back home in Alaska) actually tagged a photo of me doing just that recently that she pulled from my Facebook page where she captioned me “In my Hometown of NYC, USA” and there I am holding a mop and broom! I commented back saying that “My wildest dreams of becoming a glorified janitor in the big city have finally come true!” But seriously I am lucky enough to have the bar as my sole source of income these days. I have a great boss, Troy Carson aka Basic Black. Between the band and Metropolitan I’ve been able to make it work. Pop in during a Monday Happy hour and I’ll be there..my day job starts around 2:30 then. I’m very blessed as far as my job is concerned.

You always seem like you’re in a good mood, which has me wondering … what are some of your pet peeves that might harsh your mellow?

Ridiculous questions or random bitchy comments my direction at the bar here and there can grate at my nerves. Like “Why don’t you guys take your shirts off?” or when I am collecting glasses and somebody is like ” Oh, make way for the go- go boy” or something really classist or shitty like “You’re nothing but a barback” or “You have no authority here” I’m all “Really?” and just think to myself “Catch me on my doorshift..” or MORE IMPORTANTLY “Catch me on my bartending shifts.” TRUST. It’s always a sure fire attitude adjustment. The thing that gets all of us from time to time is when we are working and the bar is packed and you’re busy and somebody has to say something like “WHATS WRONG?” “ARE YOU OK?” “WHY DON’T YOU SMILE?” You feel like you wanna pull em aside and be like “Tell me where you work because when you are at work Monday morning and you are at the most stressful part of your day, I am gonna reach over your shoulder at your cubicle and ask you “How come you never smile?” I get it. I understand that some people just forget that it’s our job and we aren’t getting drunk and hanging out too.

Ok forget the peeves – Do you have any pets!

3 cats and my roommates Lacey & Jacob. We all take care of each other. I have a SHITLOAD OF PLANTS AS WELL!! I wish I had a yard for a full fledged garden! Then you could come over and we could drink beers and play in the garden, listen to records & have a mini BBQ!

An ex of mine once told me that he went to Alaska and had to drive 2 hours to find the only local gay bar and it was a gay bar/fish restaurant combo. Is this a pretty good wrap up of the gay scene in Alaska?

Where the hell did he live? I grew up in Anchorage which is the city and only true Metropolis in the State. There are gay bars there. No fish and chip combos tho.. I would like to know where this place is? Truthfully there is so much more there now then when I was in high school but things can also be pretty pre- Stonewall up there. Take for instance these guys who work up on the north slope on the Oil Rigs or for the Pipeline, right? Well they will do that 2 – 3 weeks out of the month and have a week or so off so they come down to Anchorage to the gay bars and these guys (a few of them) will be in Floral pattern dresses or Opulent drag & some of them will be in full lipstick and make-up regalia with a full beard & mustache! No video cameras allowed. I have to step back and respect that. It’s so easy to be here in New York and forget that things really are very different in certain parts of our own country let alone the rest of the world.

You have a great attitude, I can’t imagine anyone ever not liking you. But has anyone ever said anything about you, personally or musically, that you felt was served with more haterade than necessary?

Well besides my own bridges I’ve burned and have re mended I can only think of one person. Its this guy who used to date a friend of mine a few years back and just plain has a problem with himself and his sexuality. At a show we played last year he and his friend (including some girl he was kissin’ up on) were like “oh, hey!” and I had no idea who he was and he lost it. Anyway loooong story short he proceeded to boo and chide my friends band & my own the entire night until it spilt onto the LES into a fight between them and a few friends of ours. They told me “you’re band is a sad imitation of [enter name of band i have never heard of]!” haha!.. anyway he shows up at the Met every now and then and he STILL talks shit about that night… I have not reached the point yet but if it continues one of these days I’m gonna just let him know that whatever his problem is with boys & their butts needs to be worked out and the fact that he doesn’t like my band is possibly the best compliment I could ever receive because nothing we do or want to be involved with has anything to do with anybody like him. Besides the fact that it made us feel like a real band! MKNG FRNDZ has haters!! YES!!

New York for life, or New York for now?

I love New York…LOVE IT I can’t do the things I do here like I want to do them anywhere else. That being said tho….the subway is NOT free and the streets are NOT paved with gold. Come on people. And keep in mind who you are voting for. Michael Bloomberg does not care about gay people and wants to shut bars and nightlife in this city down before 2am. Christine Quinn will let him run his illegal 3rd term with her blessing because it’s only my guess that she will be running with his blessing as soon as his 3rd term is over. JUST SAYIN’!

What do you see yourself doing in 5 years if all goes as planned?

Being apart of something much bigger than me or here that includes every amazing artist and homo I know, playing shows, saving money and having fun!

This isn’t necessarily related to you but it’s driving me crazy. DO YOU KNOW WHAT OTTER POPS ARE? Nobody I talk to has any idea what I am talking about!!

Oh! You mean Sir Isaac Lime, Alexander The Grape, Little Orphan Orange, Strawberry Short Kook & Poncho Punch? I know them well. BEST FREEZER POPS EVER. I knew those names by heart before I knew The Apostles or The Beatles.

I am a big big big fan of tattoos and I always see this one of a lady on your arm. Are there any I am missing? My wet dreams await your response.

I have a few…One is script across my rib cage. Its very Fancy faggy cursive and says “thank you for being a friend” It’s a friendship tattoo with my friend Eric Nathanson. He has Beautiful tattoos!

Whenever I think of mustaches I always think of you and I don’t know why. It’s not like you’re the only person I’ve ever seen with a mustache, but it has some strange power over me. Anyway, I bring this up because someone once told me that they planned to have a mustache for 2 years and then they would be done with it. Is your ‘stache for keeps or does it also have an expiration date planned?

I feel I look very young without facial hair in general. Perhaps too young for my taste right now. All of the males in my family have facial hair for the most part and I do identify with that. I will more than likely always have some form of a mustache. I don’t even know what I would look like without one at this point. I like playing with it and changing the shape aka. fucking it up. I like that men as a whole (biologically or not) are having a real love affair with their facial hair.

Summer or winter?

FALL The best of both worlds and I love fall fashion the best.

What animal do you think you are LEAST like?

Creepy crawlers of all kinds. In Alaska we have a ton of killer shit and poison brush & bark but no scorpions, venomous snakes, 6ft centipedes etc… My brain does not know how to process them well because i grew up having to watch out for bear, moose, devils club and wolves! I could drive 75 on black ice and climb a mountain in keds before I would know what to do with a scorpion in my bathtub or an alligator sunning itself by the pool in my backyard!

What would your dream date with me be like? (I’m partial to flowers and sake)

SAKE AND SHROOM TEA IN MY GARDEN IN MY DREAM BACKYARD WITH ENOUGH ROOM TO DANCE AND DO KICKSTANDS AND BACKFLIPS TO CELIA CRUZ RECORDS.

My birthday is coming up soon in 8 months and what I really want is a full blown photograph of you, naked, sprawled out on a bearskin rug. It will be very tasteful. I’m just throwing that out there…

My relationship advice to the world is simple: keep his balls empty and his stomach full. This is a guaranteed recipe for success. After seeing Good Goose of Menya perform the other night though, I am going to add “be a beat programmer, be the best band of the night, and have a killer smile” to the list.

You know those rare people that you see that are not only cute but they just look like they are going to be nice? In a city full of negative creeps I have found myself more and more drawing the line in the proverbial sand at mean-spirited, tactless, lame negative attitudes — and Good Goose was just what the doctor ordered to get over this bummer hangover. Also; dating him would mean I have succeeded in marking off another one of my “Types Of Guys I Want To Date At Least Once in My Life” list (see; guy named after benevolent animal).

Good Goose has an energy on and off stage that just makes you want to melt into him. His jizz-in-pants inducing live beats contrast well against his sweet, welcoming, and god damned sexy presence one on one. For example, I saw him leaving QBR after performing a kick ass set and so I shouted “You’re awesome!” Your typical New York hipster-in-a-band would have said thanks and maybe smiled, but would have kept walking. Good Goose smiled, said thank you, and came over to chat and I’m pretty sure he grabbed my butt and ran his fingers through my hair. That last part might be a day dream.

Ohhh I am totally crushin’ on Good Goose! He answered some questions for me, and I’m certain by the time we are done we will be as we are meant to be; Good Geese.

When you’re not working on music what can Good Goose be found doing?

Sleeping. Haha, I actually do spend the majority of my time working on music in some way- be it recording, writing, making beats, booking shows and tours, e-mailing fans, or even just thinking about music. Second place though, is that I like to take nice long walks around Park Slope with my ipod just absorbing everything around me. It’s very relaxing.

I admit to knowing absolutely nothing about making beats. What got you into doing that versus, say, playing the piano?

I had a home studio in high school and I’d often record a lot of punk bands from around DC.  Around the time I turned 16, a lot of my punk band friends and I all started getting really into hip-hop and soon some of the kids started rapping. We all used to make beats together on weekends in my studio and just rap over them for hours. I took over the beat making after a while and a hip-hop group was formed. Once I graduated high school and we all went our separate ways.  I didn’t really do as many beats once I got to college before I met Coco Dame and things sparked up again.  And I’m so glad they did!

You took to your Twitter to announce that you are spending the Summer being an artist. What does that entail?

Being broke.  Haha, I have enough music stuff to keep me busy full time this summer, and I figured I could use a summer to really concentrate on music. We’re putting out a new Menya mixtape in August, so we’re all working hard on writing and recording that. It’ll be totally free and available online.  I’m starting to do DJ sets and we’ve got a lot of small tours and such too. I’ll be busy. Just slightly poor.

Were there any artists that inspire you in your music?

I could go on for days: Spank Rock (specifically XXXChange’s production), the Magnetic Fields (I am a HUGE Stephin Merritt fan), Kid606, Girl Talk, Jay Dilla, The Neptunes, pre-Nelly-Furtado/Justin-Timberlake Timbaland…and of course, my girl Miley. “7 Things”? Hell yeah!

The party at QBR that I was lucky enough to be apart of was so much fun! Are there any venues besides QBR that you really enjoy playing?

I like Bowery Poetry Club a lot. They’ve been really great to us and given us a lot of freedom to throw our own parties. We play there just about every month or two with our good friend Nyle. Also, I have to give a lot of love to the Lake Johnson loft in Bushwick. We’ve played there a ton of times and the parties have always been ridiculously fun. We filmed our music video there.

As far as lyrics go, which songs from Menya are some of your favorites? I must say the hook in “Ripe” where you’re saying “Suck my dick, girl you’re mine” always works me into a – pardon the expression – vicious libido-driven froth.

Aww. Appreciated, but it’s actually not me saying that in “Ripe.” It’s our friend Marty. (B: NOOO!! My heart has never been broken so swiftly!) It’s a very common misconception. I’m usually far too shy to sing lead. I’m trying to be less shy these days. In terms of one-liners and hooks, I thought we had some good ones in Philly Gurls. “You got a crack bigger than the Liberty Bell”? Crazy! In terms of serious ones, I love the lyrics of “Oh!” I think Coco Dame really bares her heart in a lot of songs she writes, and I’m floored by her honesty sometimes.

You have several shows coming up. Are there any venues you’re especially excited about?

I’m really excited about our tour dates. I love playing in Providence. We have some amazing fans out there and we’ll be playing a couple times. Richmond is always so much fun too. We’re playing a couple DC dates and that will be great since both Coco Dame and I grew up nearby. I can’t wait to do June 27th with Nyle at Bowery Poetry Club. Nyle’s been having a great couple months (he’s been featured in New York Magazine, Kanye West’s blog and lots more) and I’ve been so happy to watch him grow.

Are you going to be doing anymore music videos in the near future? The video for “Oh” is so cute!

I can guarantee that we will soon. It will likely be something off our new album that we’re recording now. It will be so much easier to do now that it’s warm. We filmed “Oh!” last January and had to wander around the city in 20-degree weather wearing only thin hoodies. I was the same color as a strawberry by the end.

Where could anyone reading this keep up to date with the happenings of Menya?

If there were one person, dead or alive, that you could meet and talk to for an hour, who would it be?

Louis Sachar. He wrote Sideways Stories for Wayside School and Holes. I think he has a wonderful imagination and I’d love to just pick his brain for a bit. I’d probably get a lot of great inspiration.

What’s the greatest compliment you’ve ever received?

On a musical level, when Robert Christgau gave us an A- on our first EP on MSN Music, it was unbelievable. I couldn’t believe that something I had been a part of would have been regarding so highly by such a respectable and well-known critic. In a completely different world: Gay Times Magazine in the UK twittered about me being a “new boy crush”. I had never had anything like that happen to me before. I freaked out for a week straight!

Do you have any awesome tattoos? I love tattoos…

I wish. I like tattoos too, but I don’t have the guts to get one. I know I’d regret whatever I’d decide on the second after I get it done. I can be kind of impulsive to a fault.

What word would you say that you over use?

“Crucial” or “Adorable.” I say “adorable” every five minutes.

What do you think your nemesis – Bad Goose – would look like? Would he be in some horrible rival band ala the Misfits in Jem and the Holograms?

I think the fact that you just compared us to Jem and the Holograms makes me want to change my answer about the best compliment I’ve ever received. But it’s pretty safe to say that Bad Goose is anyone who dislikes Shirley Temples. They’re just so good.

BESIDES ME OBVS., who would you want to lay a huge kiss on and why?

My Mom. Because she’s wonderful. Hi Mom!

When it comes to crushes, there’s the handsome guy that you want to marry, then there is the hot guy that you cheat on your boyfriend with, then there is the sexy creative guy that has tattoos and knows how to play an instrument. And then there is Max Steele — the type of guy that is a little bit of everything but refuses to let himself be categorized as any of them. The skinny cute hipster type that is obviously not from “here” but blends in well enough except when he performs and blows other locals out of the water. The type of guy that makes you want to try any drug he hands you, or the type of guy that will piss you off at one point just so you two can have amazing make up sex.

But what is actually attractive about Max is that everybody that encounters him immediately starts trying to associate labels with him. They try to put him in a box, but none of them fit, so they get mad at him and yet at the same time want to crawl in bed with him. I know I sure as hell have. I also know that I want his bones next to my bones pronto.

He was kind enough to let me interview him as this week’s crush in lieu of the release party for his zine Scorcher. I am hoping that by the end of this interview I will somehow manage to convince him that he is in madly in love with me.

Who would you say you are more of these days — Max, or Billy? Half of each maybe?

I’m Max. I’m her. But you know, everyone’s Billy. Billy’s a verb. Or,
he’s gonna turn into one if we’re lucky.

In JE M’AIME it seems like there is an underlying sense of anger, whereas in BE BILLY it seems the bitch has calmed down a bit. What was going on with Billy back then and how has that changed him into what he is now?

JE M’AIME was a collection of the first two Scorchers and some new stuff. When I started the zine, I had just moved to NYC and felt sort of insignificant and left these dirty angry punk zines out on public to like FEEL REAL or something. Then in the last couple years, I realize that, you know, none of us are real anyway. Or, we’re all equally “real” but everybody just makes it up. That’s more what BE BILLY is about.

I understand the cover of BE BILLY is artwork from East Village Boys where there is some guy drawing images for each of your stories. How did that come about?

Stories from the last Scorcher were serialized for EastVillageBoys.com, and they had Todd Gilmour, from Bowery Studio, do the artwork. I’ve never met him and we’ve never really discussed the illustrations, but they’re amazing. I’m so flattered and honored to have someone work on these stories. I got involved with EVB after
writing them a fan letter, and begging them to let me do stuff for the site. They’re so cool, I’m really excited and lucky to be part of that group. Most good things in my life come from me writing letters, asking people out– articulating, you know? Naming what you want.

You have an opening coming up in June for this issue. What is that going to be like?

Yeah, I’m gonna have a zine release at Envoy Gallery. I’m excited–Envoy shows really wonderful queer artists and hosts really funevents– Joseph Keckler just had a cabaret / opening there, and it’sgonna be a monthly party.

The release party is on June 6th, from 6-8. I’m gonna have the zines for sale (and Birdsongs too). My friend Danielle Rainbow Rosa is going to show her drawings, which is going to be really cool. I’m going to read from the zine, and I’ve got two really great co-readers with me: Tommy Pico (founder of Birdsong Micropress and editrix of the L Magazine’s Poetry section) and Thain Torres, a gorgeous performance artist and sexy witch. It should be a fun night.

I have always wondered — are these guys all real people? Some of them come off as absolute jerks the way you write them and I get so annoyed that Billy is involving himself with them.

That is SO SWEET. Usually the response I get to the writing is more allong the lines of “Why is Billy so mean to these sweet, nice, sexy boys?” Maybe The boys in the newer issue come across as a little less perfect. Yeah, they’re all real. I mean, they’re caricatures but they’re all real.

If you had to pick one song to describe the essence of BE BILLY, which song would it be and why?

When I was writing these, I was listening to a lot of Laura Nyro. So maybe “Captain St. Lucifer”.

If Billy had a weapon, what kind would it be?

Oh god, weapons. I believe a good defense is the best offense. SO maybe some kind of magickal spiked shield or something.

Are there any zines out there besides your own that you like a lot?

DORIS has been my favorite zine since I was 13. It is a constant source of inspiration. Obviously, Birdsong. But that’s cheating since Tommy Pico is my
homegirl from our teen mutant years. Also, FAG SCHOOL by Brontez, my dream date / idol, is a wonderful and important zine.

Your apartment is on fire and you only have time to grab three things in your home to save from destruction. What are those three things?

Some musical instruments, probably. My cello, or probably the ukulele. I’d probably take my zine stuff too. Maybe my copy of Kathy Acker’s “Portrait of an Eye”. I’d probably be too freaked out to think to grab anything from a fire.

I have seen you go-going at QxBxR several times now. I really didn’t take you as the type of person that would be interested in go-go dancing, so what made you decide to do it and why?

I love go-go dancing. I maintain that it is the best application of my Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Arts (Sarah Lawrence, 2006). It’s a way to participate in the party and also comment on the party. it’s like watching yourself live on teevee. It’s great. I started go-go dancing in 2006, but I’ve never really gone all the way with, like, making it my JOB job, cause most gay bars aren’t that fun to hang out it. QxBxRx is amazing, it’s the queer punk club of my high school fantasies,
where riot grrrl legends smoke joints with you backstage. I love it there.

What are some of your favorite places to go in New York?

My roof. The Strand (bookstores are sexy). This is so dorky– Zabar’s, on the Upper West Side. I can’t really afford anything there, but when I just like it in there. Fanciness, y’know.

Let’s be narcissists! — What is your favorite physical feature on yourself and why?

I don’t really have a favorite part of my body. I guess my favorite physical feature is my voice, does that count? My dialect.

Your eyebrows are sexy and expressive. You have such a cute face. You have an impish smile and thin, sexy wrists.

I forget which bar I was in when it happened… In fact I forget most of the night in question… but what I do remember is standing in a circle of friends having a few laughs when suddenly my eyes spotted the following all in one man:

-Great smile
-Killer body
-Buzzed head
-Latino-rino
-Thong

The next sound everyone heard was my jaw hitting the floor. This guy was a babe! And here he was go-go dancing a few feet away from me. His movements and facial expressions suggested that he was not only a talented dancer, but that he also had a great sense of humor. I was smitten and I had to know his name. I asked the bartender and he told me.

“Geronimo.”

A few months later and here I am still obsessed with his adorable face. I decided to hunt him down and ask him a few questions.

How long have you been in New York?
Born and raised here in brick city.

What is your schedule like? Where can people typically find you dancing on any given night?
My schedule is crazy since I’m an actor looking for more work in film and television, a model looking for more exposure, a break dancer that’s not looking for more work, lol I also do real estate appraisals and I lifeguard in the summers. I work at Glounge, Hiro, Eastern Bloc, The Cock, Urge, Dtox, 718, Pacha, Star Lounge, Splash, Lavish and soon Monster.

Are there any parties that stand out for you as favorites?
Yes, the parties at Glounge and Hiro.

Does go-go pay the bills or do you have another job?
Go-go is just to keep me above the water. With how the economy is doing everything helps.

I am curious…most people would associate your name with the famous Apache. Do you have any American Indian blood?
I am from the Dominican Republic but born and raised here with no kids.

Do you have any pets? I was thinking of getting an Italian Greyhound sometime soon…
A chihuahua named Keyler. He’s white with black eye patches and a black stripe on the side like the cartoon dog Bolt.

You have an excellent body! What does your workout plan consist of that helps you get that definition? Give us lesser-bodied babes your secrets please!
No secret. I do a lot of push ups and dips. I swim and break dance and eat what I want. I guess it’s just a lifestyle of working out that has me looking like this, though I don’t think I have a perfect body just somewhat in shape, but thanks for those that like what they see.

Who are you listening to these days, music-wise?
I love dance music and I love Aventura. They’re a bachata group I toured with.

I have to ask you, because I ask everybody and I pretend like I don’t care about the answer when in reality I secretly think it’s really important: What’s your sign?
Leo.

In 2008 you did a benefit calendar to honor the memory of late DJ Carl Blaze. Do you have any plans to lend yourself to any other benefit calendars in the future, or perhaps just make one of your own?
People ask about the calendar but I only really did it to raise money for his kids and I haven’t done another since. I just made enough to give them what I had thought to raise, but with this economy I don’t think that it’ll do as well if I made a 2009 or 2010. So lets see, you never know what’ll happen.

Are there any projects you’re working on at the moment or plan to work on soon?
Yes I’m trying to do a fund raiser lottery thing.

When you’re not twirling around on a box what do you like to do with your free time?
Sky dive, snow board, break dance, swim and eat.

Have you ever had anyone get too grabby with you while you were dancing? Are there any of those moments that stand out as “Woah…Easy buddy..”?
Yeah all the time but I have to take the good with the bad with my job. Sometimes people disrespect and they blame it on the alcohol or other things, lol but it is what it is.

A couple issues a Next Magazine ago you were featured in the Scene & Heard section. In one photo, there is an onlooker standing behind you who looks like is having a heart attack watching you dance. Are there any special moves that you like to do to elicit this type of response from people or do you just improvise?
I love music so I just move to what I like and move more to what I love so it depends on what’s playing.

You know my birthday is coming up on April 30th. If I were to show up where ever you are dancing on that day and tap my foot in your direction, would you buy me a drink?
No I wouldnt I’d lick you, slap you, punch you and call you Suzy and send you on your way, but after putting a ‘Punch me its my 50th bday’ sign on your back!

Ouch! Well it looks like I will have to find someone else to buy me a drink, but with a face like that I think I’ll go ahead and let him beat the crap out of me. If you see Geronimo out there, give him a big ol’ tip, he’s a really nice guy. Thanks Geronimo, good luck with everything!

I first noticed Joshua Katcher because I saw a picture of him and his amazing well-done sleeve. From there I started reading up on him and I’d find that he’d appear here and there from time to time. He was in Time Out New York naked per user request, and then I found that he runs what has become one of my favorite blogs, The Discerning Brute.
