Baby, the stuffin’s gettin’ HEAVY, and Brandon B. has a boner for a drag queen! Well, drag queens in general. I love drag, and I love androgyny, and nothing speaks to me more than a man who can put on a dress and make me want it all. That’s why I reached out to RuPaul’s Drag Race contestants and begged them to let me bask in their glory for a moment for Crushin’ On, and the first doll I contacted was of course my favorite beauty from season 1 — Jade. Jade aka David Sotomayor is stunning both in and out of drag. They have a smile that could melt a stick of butter in the artic, and a beautifully sweet personality to match. David was kind enough to ignore my obsessive nature and answer a few questions for me, and is the latest victim guest in my Crushin’ On segment!
J: It really has… its been an amazing ride. Been very lucky to meet a lot of great people and work many places.
B: Anyone can see how popular RuPaul’s Drag Race has become. How does it feel knowing that you were apart of the very first season?
J: Amazing, I’m glad that I was part of change. It’s the first reality show that has been able to open so many peoples eyes about our form of art. I’m glad that our struggles and those who struggled and fought for our rights are paying off.
B: Do you have any favorites from the current season? They sent home my Boxx…
J: All the girls seemed really cool… the ones I have met in person are Jujubee, Tyra, and Jessica Wild and they’re all sweet hearts.
B: Are there any contestants from the show that you are close with these days? I see you and Jessica Wild turned it out on stage recently..
J: Yes Jessica and I had an amazing event in Puerto Rico. It was a huge turn out. She is the sweetest and fiercest thing, has a huge heart. And of course I stay in contact with all of my sisters from season 1.
B: Now comes the portion of the interview where I start sexually harassing you. As pretty as Jade is, you are one fine looking gentleman! Do you spend more of your time these days as Jade, dancing, modeling, or what?
J: lol Well when I’m not touring as Jade, I train with two professional dance teams. Los Soneros del Swing — a Latin Company, and Gifted Souls. So I make sure I give fair time to both Jade and David.
B: Has Jade ever had a creepy stalker? Besides me obviously..
J: Nothing that I couldn’t handle… well besides you baby haha
B: You seemed a little shy on the show when RuPaul kept talking about your no-no pole. Would you say you are a shy person? Please keep in mind that there is a picture of you in a shiny black brief wielding a green light-saber on your Facebook page…
J: That was the only thing I didn’t care for, being portrayed as being shy. I just chose not to talk negative about the other girls…. that’s not how I wanted us to be portrayed, and not feed the negative stereotypes out there.
B: Are you the sensitive type, or a hard as nails hooker like myself?
J: A little of both. I’ve learned to be considerate but will not let anyone cross the line.
B: I don’t see any tattoos on your body and that makes me sad. Do you have any I’m just not seeing? Any plans to get any?
J: No I don’t have any, I think when you get a tattoo it should feel right. It’s gonna be with you for a long time.
B: Do you ever make it out to perform in New York or do you stay mostly in Chicago?
J: I have yet to perform in New York, I do travel mostly out of Chicago. I would love to visit the big apple soon….
B: What would you say your greatest fear is?
J: It used to be failure, but Ive learned when you want something, go get it. So no I stand fearless!
B: Where do you draw your artistic inspiration from?
J: I originally always looked up to J.Lo but as years passed I eventually evolved my own style.
B: Do you have a full-time job other than your creative projects? Am I gonna walk into a Popeyes and see you deep frying my chicken strips??
J: lol No I am a full-time entertainer.
B: Are there any celebrities that you admire and model yourself after? I’d have to say for me it would be the character Lucille from Arrested Development.
J: lol Again I would have to say J.lo and Angelina Jolie. Their sensuality draws me like a moth to a flame.
B: I recently posted that I am a cat-like dog person looking for a dog-like cat person. What type of person do you usually find yourself attracted to?
J: Someone who can make me laugh. laughing brings so much joy in my life.. seriously lol…. it’s the best feeling just simply being happy. (Editors Note: I’ve made her laugh several times at this point!)
B: Let’s talk about where people can see you. Any upcoming shows or any appearances you’ll be making now that the weather is getting nicer?
J: On May 13th the cast of 50 Faggots, a documentary that I am featured in, will be at Hydrate in Chicago celebrating this amazing series and kick off the weekend of festivities. Performances by Acid Betty, Epiphony from NYC Screaming Queens, choreographer Darrell Jones, Marc Felion and Fausto Fernos from “Feast of Fun” and myself, with DJ Phil DaBeatz. The following day May 14th, the premiere of the first episode will be presented at the Center on Halsted.
B: My birthday is April 30th. How great would it be for you to come to New York and take me out to dinner! I think it would be a really good career move, in all honesty…
J: lol That would be wouldn’t it. ;)
B: If you could kiss one person in the world and slap one other person, who would those people be? I am fine if you say me for both answers. :)
J: Well everyone knows if I could have slapped someone who that person would have been lol, and kiss well I never kiss and tell so we’ll just keep that a secret.
