Walk into any drug store or sex toy store and you will most likely be face to face with an overwhelming number of condoms to choose from. And really, how does anyone know which condom to pick? We look at things like the packaging as if that has anything to do with the quality of the condom. We see all these phrases on the boxes like “pleasure studs”, “twisted pleasure”, “micro thin” and think to ourselves “Dammit, I just want a fucking condom!” You want a reliable condom but you don’t want to be wearing an uncomfortable plastic bag. I put Crown condoms to the test for gay man kind.
Crown hails as the “Skin Less Skin Condom”, meaning that it is supposed to feel like you are wearing nothing at all. This implies that these condoms are relatively thinner than other condoms — which is true. Crown measure in at 0.00181″ thin, making it one of the thinnest out there. This raises the immediate eyebrow to most people; “Well doesn’t that mean it’s more apt to break?” No, not if used properly.
The #1 reason for condom breakage is because the condom was used incorrectly. There are many studies on the issue, but on average when used correctly condoms only have a 3% breakage ratio. That number jumps significantly depending on which study you read, when the condom was used incorrectly.
So really quick — condom reminders:
* Always store condoms in a cool, dry place away from sunlight. Heat and sunlight can damage the material.
* Check the expiration date of the condom. If there is none (and there should be, as required by law), then don’t use it!
* Tear the condom package open carefully. Avoid using your teeth (sorry macho man, using your teeth makes it easier to tear the condom itself).
* PINCH the tip of the condom with one hand and with the other roll the condom down the shaft. One of the main causes of condom breakage is not having room for ejaculate!
* Apply lube to the outside of the condom to avoid excess friction which can tear the material.
* Hold on to the base of the condom when pulling out. This helps prevent slippage.
So now that we’ve determined that Crown is safe to use, does it measure up to its self-proclaimed reputation? A resounding yes from my court!
When you are wearing a Crown compared to wearing another brand, you really don’t feel like you are being constricted. The feel of the condom is impressive and thin, just like they claim. They also are pink, which tickles my fancy.
Crowns measure in at 7.08″ in length when fully unrolled and 2.08″ thick up and down the entire shaft, so most average and above average men can use these bad boys.
Whenever I have used a Crown when topping someone, it never feels like I am wearing a condom. The material has such a nice thin texture to it, you completely forget you ever put it on in the first place! As an added bonus, whenever someone has worn one when topping me, my butt has been very pleased with how it feels. Sometimes condoms can feel thick and uncomfortable for the person on the receiving end of it too, so it’s nice to know there is a condom out there that feels good for both parties.
Another great thing about Crown is that although they are made of latex, they don’t have a latex smell or taste. This is great for when you want to rip that condom off and go back to oral — some condoms leave your partners member smelling and tasting so aseptic and gross.
Remember that an appropriate amount of lube is required for anal sex. Fucking without lube or without enough lube is a guaranteed ticket to BrokenCondomville! I have mentioned my favorite lube for the job here, but there are lots of nice ones out there.
I’d have to say that of all the condoms I have tried Crown is the best all around for both parties. When used correctly, it can be an effective tool in the bedroom to safer sex and good fun!
Crown condoms can now be purchased from our discreet online store at SexToyFun! They are also currently being carried by The Pleasure Chest!
